Featured Golf Club Manager: Rick Saxby

Rick Saxby

Hello, my name is Rick Saxby and I have been a Level III USGTF Certified Golf Teaching Professional® since June 2005.  I am now currently the general manager of Stoneybrook Golf Course in Columbia, Tennessee, and have been serving in that capacity since July 2010.  As we all know, working in the golf industry brings us various degrees of pleasure, satisfaction, frustration, and occasionally, utter joy.  Our biggest task as managers is trying to juggle all our day-to-day activities, and creating an environment where patrons are not only excited to come to, but willing to tell others about their Stoneybrook experience.

Stoneybrook is in a bedroom community 50 miles south downtown Nashville, Tennessee.  We are a privately owned daily fee course that features 18 holes, a driving range, two practice greens, and a quaint, comfortable clubhouse with our own Pleasant Valley Grille serving the best of southern-style comfort foods.

My role at Stoneybrook is as varied as my golf swing.  Marketing, website maintenance, staff management, working closely with the course superintendent on conditioning and equipment, budgets, outing coordinator, setting rates in point-of-sale and, did I mention cleaning carts, bathrooms, or filling in at the front counter in a moment notice?

My philosophy is to treat your staff and volunteers better than anyone else.  You’ll have a dedicated group that will be self-motivated, relaxed and confident, and willing to pay attention to the most important detail, the customer.

The condition of the golf course is paramount, so I put my trust in our superintendent, allowing him to hire and manage his crew and manage a budget for chemical, fertilizer, and equipment that will give him the best chance to succeed.
In short, I love the challenge.  What a game, this golf!
